Child safety

Child safety standards

Mehram is for adults. These are our standards against child sexual abuse and exploitation, and how to report a concern.

Our position

Mehram is a matrimonial service for adults. Child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) is absolutely prohibited on Mehram, in every part of the service, with no exception. This includes child sexual abuse material (CSAM), the sexualisation of a minor, grooming, sextortion, child trafficking, and any attempt to use Mehram to arrange the marriage of, or contact with, a person under 18.

There is no warning and no second chance. An account involved in any of the above is removed permanently, its data is preserved for law enforcement, and the matter is reported to the relevant authorities.

Mehram is 18+

  • Registration requires a date of birth, and anyone under 18 is refused at sign-up.
  • Every member must pass identity verification before their profile is approved and before they can be introduced to anyone. A government identity document is reviewed by a member of our team, and the date of birth on it must match the account.
  • A profile that fails this check is never shown to another member.
  • If we find that an account belongs to someone under 18, we close it immediately and delete the data.

How we prevent it

  • No directory and no browsing. Members cannot search for or look through other members. Introductions are made by Mehram, to adults whose criteria match, and always in both directions. There is no way to seek out a particular person.
  • Verification before contact. Identity verification comes before a member can be introduced, send a proposal, or open a conversation.
  • Photographs are reviewed. Every photograph is moderated before it can be shared, and photographs are hidden by default until both sides and a guardian have consented.
  • Guardian oversight. Proposals and conversations are visible to a registered wali, which means an adult family member sees what is happening.
  • Contact details are blocked. Phone numbers, email addresses and social handles are blocked in chat, so a conversation cannot be moved somewhere unmoderated.

Reporting a concern in the app

Every profile and every conversation in Mehram carries a Report option. Choosing Under-age — or any other category, with a note — sends the report straight to our safety team. Reports can be made without the other person being told, and blocking somebody stops all contact immediately, including calls.

You do not need an account to raise a child safety concern with us. Email safety@mehram.ai and we will act on it.

How we respond

  • Reports are read by a person, not a filter. A suspected child safety report is treated as the highest priority and is actioned ahead of everything else in the queue.
  • Any content that appears to be CSAM is removed from the service at once and the account is suspended while we review.
  • Confirmed CSAE results in permanent removal of the account and a permanent ban on the person behind it.
  • We preserve the account records and content as evidence and report the matter to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and to law enforcement in the relevant jurisdiction, including the Federal Investigation Agency’s Cybercrime Wing in Pakistan.
  • We cooperate fully with lawful requests from law enforcement and child protection agencies.

Compliance

Mehram complies with the child safety and child sexual abuse and exploitation laws of the jurisdictions in which the app is available, and with Google Play’s Child Safety Standards policy. These standards are reviewed at least once a year, and whenever the service changes in a way that affects them.
